Skiing in the area
Lunigiana might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of winter sports. The ski runs are not the highest or longest, but you can enjoy a jolly good day out. Following recent snowfalls, the resorts of Zum Zeri in Northern Lunigiana and Cerreto Laghi and Pratospilla on the borders of Emilia Romagna have just opened for skiing and snowboarding.    

Zum Zeri

Zum Zeri and the beautiful Passo dei Due Santi has a couple of ski lifts, as well as a ski school, and is popular with skiers and snowboarders alike. Equipment hire is available. Cerreto Laghi

Cerreto Laghi on the border of Emilia Romagna in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park has  ski lifts and a snow making machine. It offers around 30 kilometres of piste, varying in difficulty. You can ski, snowboard or have a go at cross-country skiing. If you need lessons, there is a ski school. There is also an indoor ice rink for skating. Equipment can be hired on site. Pratospilla

The Pratospilla resort is located just over the border from Lunigiana in Emila Romagna. Located at 1,350 metres above sea level, chair lifts will take you up to 1,700 metres, Pratospilla offers skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and walking, plus a ski school and equipment hire. Monte Cimone (Sestola)

The Cimone (Sestola), 2165 meters high, 70 kilometres south of Modena, is not only the highest mountain in the northern Apennines, but the most popular ski resort in the Apennines of Tuscany and Emilia, one of the most fully equipped in Italy, as for winter sports plants and related services. More than 50 km linked slopes accessible by a unique ski pass, 31 slopes, 21 ski lifts and more than 50 ski trainers.Snow is granted by a modern programmed snowmaking system covering almost 2/3 of the skiing area. During the last years, Cimone has become a real paradise for snowboarders, with 2 snow parks in Pian Cavallaro and Cimoncino, equipped with half-pipe, fun, box and big air.
